Happy Anniversary

August 29, 2006

Dear Hollywood,

I just wanted to take a minute and say hi. Let you know I am thinking of you and all that we have been through. I couldn't let this day pass us by without acknowledging all that we have endured. Ours has after all, been nothing short of a love affair.

I'll never forget the sunny smile you beamed when Shaunessy and I drove up in my VW Fox. We were listening to The Go-Go's "This Town" as we poured into the valley on the Ventura Freeway. An appropriate soundtrack as I started my new life. I can still smell the air. You were so welcoming and inviting, how could I ever resist your advances?

I'll never forget our first date. You took me to my first premiere. Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion. I'll never forget how surprised I was when you put my picture in the paper the next morning. Always full of surprises. Or what about the night you snuck me and my friends onto the Friends' stage and we played fussball all night in Joey and Chandler's apartment? You have already filled my head with unbelievable endless memories.

I'll never forget how you comforted me on that tragic September day as the world felt like it was crumbling in on itself. I could've felt alone and frightened, but you made me feel at home and as safe as anyone could have felt.

You have introduced me to so many people from all over the globe. My life couldn't be as abundant with my spectacular friendships had you not been so charming and brought them to live here. I really thank you for them.

I thank you for allowing me to live a normal life while you make fabulous things happen. You have always been generous with your magic dust when it comes to my ordinary adventures.

I have never turned my back on you because you have never turned your back on me. I have always fought and defended you to everyone. Especially the people who write you off as loud and obnoxious and polluted and full of traffic. I can relate. They obviously never saw the magnificent beauty that I see in you. You are malleable and can be whatever we need you to be- the backdrop for a star studded affair, or a hiking trail filled with trees and peaceful silence.

Do you remember that afternoon up at the Griffith Park Observatory? It was you, me and Robbie. We were so young. So hungry. So ambitious. From where we stood, we could see you sprawled out in your entirety. My own majestic oasis. Robbie commented to me (in what I believed to be half-hearted), "someday, you are going to be running all of this".

Again, we were so young and full of dreams, b
but you have never given me a reason to stop believing it is possible. And that is where I thank you and love you the most. For always reminding me, even on those days the traffic is too thick and the smog is blinding. When people are pissing me off and my dreams feel like they are waking up, you always surprise me with a gift. Something precious between you and I. And it is always just enough to remind me, that anything is possible. That I can have and do whatever I need, so long as I don't stop believing in you.

Thanks for that my love. Thank you for my magic life. Thanks for the last ten years.

I look forward to many, many more.

Happy Anniversary Darling...

xoxo

Are you ready for the next big thing???

I know you are always getting "add this band" emails from strangers, but my friend Shane is the real deal. Well, that and he is a friend of mine! His music is amazing and his new CD is finally getting ready to come out. He will be playing this Thursday at the Viper Room. I will be there and anyone who can make it, should... he is brilliant live!

And even if you can't make it, check out his page and add him as a friend... you can even add one of his songs to your myspace profile to help get his music out. Currently he has 232 friends on there. I want to see what a difference I can make... so add him!

Mark my words... he is going to be the next big thing and we will all be able to say, we knew him when...

Happy Birthday Cora Faye!

Today is the birthday of one of the most important and valuable people in my life.

Of the hundreds of people I am lucky enough to call, "friend", and the thousands of people that have passed through my life, she is one of the rare few who can say, "she knew me when".

She has known me for sixteen years, exactly half of my life.

She spent an entire summer filling out Caboodles contest forms to win me a date with Debbie Gibson.

She "tutored" me through economics and government. Without her, I may have never graduated high school.

She made my 17 year old dreams come true by delivering me Belinda Carlisle naked in bed.

She has cried with me, she has laughed with me, she has danced with me, she has taught me, she has encouraged me, she has loved me, she has embraced me, she has strengthened me, she has formed me, she has inspired me.

She remembers when I forget.

We can be miles apart.

We can go months without speaking.

But within the blink of an eye, a phone call, even an email, we are instantly connected.

Our love and bond transcends, it is only our events that need to be caught up.

She is a true treasure and this year has been no exception to that. This year has been a reminder of the strength and importance our relationship carries in my life.

I would like to honor her today on her birthday, for having been and always being one of my true friends and touchstones...

Happy birthday my beloved.

Sending you caboodles of love and stuff like that there.

xoxo

Quack!

I am backed up on blogging... I have been B U S Y! But to tide you over, I offer you this tasty little joke that landed in my inbox from my friend Sabrina... xo

Three women die together in an accident and go to heaven. When they get there, St. Peter says, "We only have one rule here in heaven: don't step on the ducks!"

So they enter heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place. It is almost impossible not to step on a duck, and although they try their best to avoid them, the first woman accidentally steps on one.

Along comes St. Peter with the ugliest man she ever saw.

St. Peter chains them together and says, "Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to this ugly man!"

The next day, the second woman steps accidentally on a duck and along comes St. Peter, who doesn't miss a thing. With him is another extremely ugly man. He chains them together with the same admonishment as for the first woman.

The third woman has observed all this and, not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly man, is very, VERY careful where she steps.

She manages to go months without stepping on any ducks, but one day St. Peter comes up to her with the most handsome man she has ever laid eyes on ... very tall, long eyelashes, muscular, and thin.

St. Peter chains them together without saying a word.

The happy woman says, "I wonder what I did to deserve being chained to you for all of eternity?"

The guy says, "I don't know about you, but I stepped on a duck!"

Quack!

Quote of the week

The spontaneity continued. The four things I was supposed to do this weekend were all shot to hell when at the last minute, I scrapped everything and headed to the beach (yes, including the room cleaning and chores). I thought it would just be a Saturday afternoon thing, but now that it is 10:30pm Sunday night and I am just getting settled back home, it turned into more of a weekend thing. I snapped a couple of photos below. Need to keep them for my fading memory. Especially when I look at these faces that I love so much because they make me so happy. Good times.

Oh, and about that quote... It was a dinner party. Ryan had to run off to the airport to pick up his friend Kyle. Kyle was flying in from Chicago and was supposed to have landed in the early afternoon, but because of mechanical issues and what not, his flight was repeatedly delayed. Like any good frat boy, he sat in the bar and consumed libations. By the time he arrived at the beach house, they practically needed a large bucket to carry him in as he was nothing but liquid and ready to spring a leak at any moment (READ: DRUNK!).

After pouring his overdue and well needed beer and inappropriately sipping from someone's champagne, he decided to regale us with the tale of his travel day. The multiple beers mixed with a xanax explained his behavior and insobriety. But unless he decided to admit to having smoked crack cocaine, nothing could have prepared us for his next statement:

"So then, they make another announcement that the flight is going to be delayed another 45 minutes due to mechanical errors. I mean, couldn't they have told me something different, like, the flight will be delayed because there is a negro running down the tarmac?"

Yep. 24 years old. Raised in California. Not 82 and born in the south. I couldn't even figure out if there was a racial slur or prejudice behind it because I was so jarred by the fact that in 2006 someone had used the word negro in a sentence. I'd be lying if I said that wasn't the quote of the night and that it didn't spawn a whole slew of ridiculous jokes about the bizarre traffic on the tarmac. Additionally, there were bets going on about how long he would last into the evening as well as when, and if, he would throw up. He lasted about 20 minutes past the tarmac quote and I was happy to learn this morning that I was right when I said he wouldn't throw up. He had been marathon drinking since Friday night. He was barely hanging on to the planet with both hands, but I knew he had the endurance to go the distance. The last I saw of him today, he was embarrassed and apologizing profusely for his behavior. And not that I was counting, but he was finishing up his third beer in between sorrys. That's my kind of vacation.

It was a fantastic time. Ross and Elise are the most perfect hosts. There is not one square of their beautiful home that they don't share and encourage your coziness. Much love and thanks to them.

My-So-Called-Life is on right now and Jordan Catalano is teaching Angela how to drive his big red Chevy in a parking lot. Of course she is ripping the clutch to shreds and giving them whiplash. I am immediately reminded of the afternoon Shaunessy taught me the same lesson in her '76 cherry red Mustang at the Campbell High School parking lot. It took me forever to get the hang of it, but eventually I did. I believe our lesson even ended with the same passionate kiss they shared. God that was a good time. Again, blessed to still be having them... xo

Escaped from prison

I was supposed to come home tonight and clean my bedroom. I know- glamorous. I hear that a lot. Actually, contrary to public opinion, I generally like having my Friday nights at home since I am usually out and about Monday through Thursday. I knew I was going to be out all weekend, so I made a pact with myself that tonight I would come home and clean my bedroom and get my chores done. I hate cleaning my bedroom. I hate doing chores. So while stuck in traffic on the 405, I called my friend Bec, whom mind you, I haven't spoken with in at least a month. The conversation went something like this:

Bec:
Well hello Robert! (that is how my name comes up on caller ID... Don't get any ideas).
Me:
Well hello Rebecca!
Bec:
How is Lance doing with being gay?
Me:
I'm sorry Bec, did you mean, "hey Bob, how are YOU doing?"
Bec:
(giggling) Oh yeah. How are you?
Me:
Fantastic. What are you doing?
Bec:
Dom's sister is here and we just finished dinner. The kids are playing in the yard and we are just having some wine. What are you doing?
Me:
Driving home.
Bec:
Want to come over?
Me:
I'm on my way.

I love spontaneity. I love good friends. I love a low key Friday night. I love doing anything but cleaning and chores. We had some nice champagne. We caught up. And much to my happy surprise, Dom was even home and we got to catch up (he has been off shooting Prison Break in Chicago all last year and now in Texas). I'm so proud of him and so happy for the success of the show.

SHAMELESS PLUG: To keep it successful, make sure you tune into the season premiere this Monday night on Fox*. Following it is my friend Mimi's new show Vanished. It'll be like a night of reunions in a way (Mimi was my boss, who directed the show John Doe and Dominic was the star). *I'm really getting a reputation for plugging things (no pun intended!)

It's a good night. And now I am eating a White Castle Cheeseburger (I found them in the frozen section at the grocery store and remember, they had already eaten before I arrived) and watching The Office. Even though it is a repeat, it still makes me giggle. Michael just asked Pam to rub butter on his foot (that he burned by standing on his George Foreman Grill). Brilliant. I'm going to do my dishes, but the bedroom will have to wait for the morning.

If I had a piece of chocolate cake, it would be a perfect evening. I guess I will just have to settle for fantastic. I hope yours is as well... xo

I love how Bec looks like she is posing for her mugshot while Dom looks like he is still serving time. I wonder if I would still sport my typical and standard grin if I ever had to get a mug shot. I hope I never have to find out!

** UPDATE: Pretty In Pink is on TV right now. This night is officially duckie!!!!

Welcome to Hollywood. What's your dream?

This could very well be one of the funiest things I have ever seen. Ever.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Off the top of my head...

  • Happy Birthday: I know that today is Belinda Carlisle's birthday (Happy Birthday Babe!), but I thought this was a cute little birthday tribute Rosie O'Donnell posted on her website yesterday to Madonna with photos she took from her last show.
  • Bad Drivers: Do you ever notice that when the car in front of you is driving like an idiot and you have to slam on your breaks to avoid hitting them, that where you would have hit them, someone has already beat you to it? Proof that they are the bad driver and not you. I wish we could tax them higher or force them to ride the bus. Yes, they irritate me.
  • I find this riveting: “I want to have only very limited comment on today'’s arrest because I feel it is extremely important to not only let the justice system operate to its conclusion in an orderly manner, but also to avoid feeding the type of media speculation that my wife and I were subjected to for so many years…the investigation of the individual arrested today in connection with Jon Benet’s death was discussed with Patsy and me by the Boulder district attorney’s office prior to Patsy’s death in June. So Patsy was aware that authorities were close to making an arrest in the case and had she lived to see this day, would no doubt have been as pleased as I am with today’s development almost 10 years after our daughter’s murder.” I know we all feel guilty because we have spent a decade thinking the parents were guilty (although dressing their six year old like they did is certainly questionable enough), but when is enough enough? As if these people haven't already been through enough, people have already begun rumors that the man they picked up just admitted he was guilty because he was already serving time in a Bangcock prison and would rather spend his time in our moaccommodationsmodations. I think that father is one man who is long overdue and deserving of some serious peace and quiet.
  • Support a good cause: Again, I know it is Belinda Carlisle's birthday, but it is my friend Jane Wiedlin who is the do-gooder of the day. By clicking here you can bid on a bowling date with her to support the fight against breast cancer.
  • The Name Record Drops: As my name dropping continues, my friend Tiffany has just emailed me to let me know her new album Dust Off and Dance can now be purchased at the Virgin Megastore. It's a fun dance album... great for a fun night out!
  • Rumor Squashing: Lance has posted this comment on his myspace page: "So of course the lovely, supporting Page 6 wrote this week that R is using me for my money and his house is in pre-foreclosure (which there is no such thing). The REAL story is, Reichen sold his house over a month ago and had been in escrow for a month. It closes next week for all of those sooooooo interested in his house selling! lol I knew this was going to be a story because (and this is how these gossipers work) my manager got a call from some girl at Page 6 saying they were going to write that R's house is in foreclosure. She said it is not and explained it was in escrow. The dumb girl had NO CLUE what escrow meant and thought that still meant foreclosure. So shame on them for not getting the real story and STILL writing the story. These "journalists" will write anything to sell a paper. Oh well. So bottom line dont listen to the gossip... hear it from the horses mouth. Theeeeenks! L"
  • And okay, so as I've mentioned, it's Belinda Carlisle's birthday... so to commemorate, here is one of my all time favorites of hers. I had such a crush on her with this video!

Emotional Pause.

Have you ever stopped and looked at your life in moving pictures? Set to a song that sums up the dichotomies that battle inside of you as you seek balance? Well, that is what I have just done and now I am a wreck. Your guess is as good as mine if I am a good wreck or a bad wreck. Definitely an emotional fender bender.

I just posted a new opening to this website (www.planetbaub.com in case you found yourself here through a different route). They are a group of photos I have seen a hundred times, but for some reason, tonight they all flooded my senses until I reached an overload. Again, it could've been the accompanying song. But really, I think it was the fact that each photo came with it's own memory and story. It's own bookmark of time.

I can not say it enough- I am blessed. I am lucky. I am loved and I am fortunate enough to love in return. I am one lucky bitch.

It's two in the morning and I still need to finish polishing a speech for a friend. I promised her it would be done before I went to bed. It's my own fault for getting in so late and then of course choosing the wrong project to finish first. But in a way I am glad I did. It was a nice backdrop for showing appreciation for all that I have known, seen and experienced. Similar to the theme of said speech.

I send thanks to everyone who has been a part of it all with me. Whether it be through internet relations or photographed moments in history. It has never been boring and it certainly isn't lonely. Again, I am blessed and thankful.

Wishing everyone who comes across these pages whether on purpose or accident the same overflowing abundance of love and life...

xox

me me me me me me meme

1. What does your MySpace headline mean?
It means that my heart can not be defined by conventional shape.

2. Elaborate on your default photo:
It was from the salsa party last Saturday. It is my little sister Amy and her childhood friend Lauren.

3. What's your middle name[s]?:
Such a curious question.

4. What is your current relationship status?
Single. Seriously single. On a slippery slope to desperately single.

5. What are you wearing right now?
Ironically the same outfit from my default photo. And a hat. I added a hat.

6. What is your current problem?
HA! I'm only allowed one? Actually, I am experiencing the calm before the storm. So today, all is well. My health is getting better and job opportunities are slowly percolating. And those have been my two biggest problems of late, well that and my constant weight battle. But even that seems to be lessening lately.

7. What do you love most?
Laughing.

8. Who makes you most happy?
Madonna usually has a pretty positive effect on me.

9. Are you musically talented?:
Oh how I wish.

10. If you could go back in time, and change one thing, what would you change?
I would have loved myself more and developed better exercise habits.

11. If you MUST be an animal for ONE day-what would you be?
I think it could be fun to be a dolphin. Maybe a bird. Something that can just soar the globe.

12. Ever have a near death experience?
Yes. I really thought I was going to die once at Magic Mountain when my lap bar came undone on a roller coaster.

13. Can you dance?
Hmmm. I wouldn't consider myself a dancer, but I certainly know I can't deny a good beat.

14. What's the name of the song that's stuck in your head right now?
White Heat - Madonna (I'm listening to all of her songs today in recognition of her birthday).

15. Who did you cut and paste this from?
Wally's Dad.

16. Name someone with the same b-day as you.
Captain Kangaroo

17. Have you ever destroyed someone's property?
Yes, but not recently. It was back before I believed in kharma.

18. Have you ever been in a fight?
What are you implying?

19. Have you ever sang in front of a big audience?
Karaoke anyone?

20. What's the first thing you notice about the sex you are attracted to?
Their face. Then their chest. Then legs. I might notice a few other things on the way back up to the arms...

21. What do you usually order from Starbucks?
Depends on my mood. Either a Venti Non-fat Raspberry with whip Mocha OR a venti soy chai no water latte with a shot of cinnamon. Yep, I am a coffee cliche.

22. Do you have a crush on one of your myspace friends?
And how. But they always live so damn far away!

23. Ever had a drunken night in Mexico?
Yes, and it was the only night there I didn't mind. Come to think of it, I think karaoke was involved.

24. Has anyone ever said you looked like a celebrity?
Yes. I get George Michael a lot (and I am not considering Dave Holmes a celebrity).

25. Do you still watch kiddy movies or TV shows?
Definitely.

26. Did you have braces?
Nope.

27. Are you comfortable with your height?
Yes

28. What is the sweetest thing someone's ever done for you?
When I think of people being sweet to me, I am overwhelmed and dizzy. People constantly amaze me in their generosity. If I had to choose my favorite, it is the way people share and give themselves to me. I think that is the sweetest gift anyone can give me.

29. Do you speak any other languages?
Yes. I took three years of german 9it slowly comes back) and I picked up some Italian last year. I want more though.

30. Whats your favorite smell?
I love fresh lavendar. I love gardenia. I love the smell of a tomato vine. I love the way certain colognes smell on a man towards the end of the day once they have mixed with their scent.

Mearth...

I think the life cycle is all backwards.

You should die first, you know, start out dead; get it out of the way.

You wake up in an old age home, feeling better every day.

You get kicked out for being too healthy; go collect your pension, then, when you start work, you get a gold watch on your first day.

You work 40 years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement.

You enjoy life, you party, and you get ready for High School.

You go to primary school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities.

You become a baby, and then spend your last 9 months floating peacefully with luxuries like central heating, spa, room service on tap, larger quarters everyday.

And then you finish off as an orgasm!

Happy Medievil Birthday Mila!

Well, I can finally check off one more item on my great check list of life. I had dinner last night at the famous Medieval Times. It was my friend Mila's birthday and she wanted something campy. I think it is safe to say, the place delivered! The food- so-so. The knights- they'll do in a pinch (especially ours). The fact that they constantly addressed me as Lord- the most spectacular thing ever!

Walking in, you could just see the excitement on everyone's faces, especially Mac's...

And Nina was ready to get her drink on!

But nothing could cheer up poor Rory...

Stuck between these two knights, I certainly didn't need any cheering up!

Say Cheese!

The birthday girl is such a little minx! meow.

Gary had a thing for the princess. Can you tell?

I told him he could have her and I would take our knight off her hands!

Our most generous and noble host. Grazi!

I got to sit next to the lovely lady Nina...

You can't even imagine how disappointed I was to discover this wasn't referring to chiseled body parts!

Really, a group this size is the only way to make the most of such an evening...

Happy birthday my lady... xox

I welled up from the anticipation...

Recognition

I just wanted to publicly say thank you to Paula and Janet for my coming out cards. I feel as though with this new found recognition, I can finally hold my head high as the proud gay man I was born to be! Too kind, too sweet... thank you!

And on another note, I went to the Barney's sale today and used my salsa winnings to buy a pair of limited edition red suede Converse designed by John Varvatos. Sorry for the quality of the photo, it is from my camera phone and it really doesn't do their cuteness justice!

I'm going to go walk around now...

Oh Mama It's Monday!

I got in trouble last week by both men and women for not giving any female eye candy... so today begins the beginning of "Oh Mama It's Monday!". And who better than to kick it off than my friend Jenna Dewan who gorgeously compliments this week's "Thank God It's Sunday!" so well? Talk about sizzling chemistry!!

Did ya miss me?

I flew home to the Bay Area this weekend to surprise my sister Tonya. She was throwing her fourth annual salsa party and as I have never attended, I figured it was time. The payoff (aside from getting to see my friends and family- who thanks to Matt and Laith, I will never think of my aunt and uncle's house the same) was that the salsa that I made came in first place! So it paid for about half of my airfare and insures that I will be making an appearance at next years event to hang on to my title! Here are just a few of the pics I snapped... I am waiting to receive some from other cameras....
