Kindalicious

Yesterday, we celebrated my friend Kindal's 11th birthday with a glamorous photo and video shoot called Kindal Land (inspired by Fergie's Fergilicious). It was so much fun. The girls all had to walk the pink carpet and I was there greeting them with the tough questions, "Have you kissed a boy?" and "If you could meet any celeb, who would it be?" Fergie and Ashley Tinsdale were definitely the faves (don't worry, I didn't know who she was either until one of the girls informed me she was from High School Musical). It was such a fun day! And yes, those are my pink Elton John glasses. Perfect for a pink carpet, right?

dizzy with disgust

Being fat and sporting a pencil mustache while spewing hatred... THAT is a choice... but being bald, having a small penis or being gay... those are things people are born with... whether genetic or God's way, it is just the facts and not a choice... otherwise, why would I want to go against the grain of idiots like this and insure a difficult life for myself?

I want to know when someone is going to write a song about God hating people who hate. Oh wait, there can never be such a song because GOD DOESN'T HATE!

The following two videos were forwarded on to me. I am forwarding them on, not because I think this person needs one more second of notoriety, but because I think that all of the people who sit on the fence thinking hatred and homophobia are on the decline, need to see the extreme inappropriateness of many like-minded individuals as this.

I want to know what gives this man the right to tell me not only that God hates me, but the power to judge me or anyone else for the path we/they are on? I will deal with God on judgement day and he or SHE and I can discuss what I did and didn't do right.. In the meantime, this guy better hope he doesn't have one skeleton in his obviously full closet...

and yes, to show this isn't a joke... here is his video blog commenting on the video/song... also, I am sure Oscar Wilde is spinning in his grave over this guy saying he was a reformed homosexual.

Remember: In complete darkness, we are all the same. It is only our knowledge and wisdom that separates us.

UPDATE:

from my friend Ryan:

Bobby,

WELL, I have been consumed by this Donnie Davies fellow for the better part of a week. I was initially OUTRAGED and DISGUSTED by this man. I, however, gave him power by going to every link and youtube I could get my hands on. I have the "Gay Bands" list memorized.

THEN, after some snooping,, I have discovered that this has been uncovered as a hoax. Turns out it is, in fact, a complete satire. I'll add a link at the bottom to one of the articles exposing it. Once I found this out, I went back and watched all the videos again and must say, this guy is kind of a genius. For people like me, who can find the genius and humor in this satire I think it is HILARIOUS! However, I have a fear of all the ignorant people in the world who DON'T get the joke and this helps fuel there hatred and bigotry.

My hope is that this will be exposed as a joke, not just on the internet, and then this truly funny man can continue his satire without harming people. I believe his intentions where actually quite good, and I applaud his ability to pull it off, but like Boratt, it's MUCH funnier if you're in on the joke.

Here's the most recent news articla as well as a link to the Andrew Sullivan "Time" blog that REALLY did the big exposure. "Donnie Davies" even mentions him in one of his videos, sort of a wink to Andrew for figuring it out.

Game Night.

I had an impromptu Game Night yesterday.
A pot of chili.
Cornbread.
Cucumber and Tomato Salad.
That ridiculous buffalo chicken dip.
Homemade Chocolate Cake.
Gallons of fresh Sangria.
A million laughs.
Hilarious games of Celebrity and Catchphrase.
I hope everyone else is as lucky as I am.
That's all.

Happy Early Birthday JD

Friday found me heading to the beach with some friends. At the last minute, we turned it into an impromptu surprise birthday for my friend JD. We laughed. We drank wine. We each wrote and read a poem. Amanda behaved naughtily. Elise made an amazing veal roast. Ross spun some music (that so did not suck). Everyone brought a peanut butter inspired dessert (it's his favorite). Breakfast beer. Sunsets. Fireworks. It was just the kind of weekend we should all be so lucky to have and as often as possible...

JD arriving...

Adorable...

Those pajamas make my legs look so thin and elf like...

Christmas has no expiration date

I just have to give a big hearty thank you to the Roxie gals. I received my box of Christmas presents today and I loved every item. My favorite part was that each item had the signature of the cities they came from! You are each too kind and way too generous. I don't know what I did to deserve your sweetness, but I am humbled and appreciative. Janet, I want to give you a special shout out for the coordinating. I can barely get a Christmas card out, the fact that you are able to coordinate this while finishing off the rest of your Christmas list is truly impressive. Happy, happy new year to you all! xo

Passing the time in bed...

Sizzle seems to be my beacon of inspiration today. My headcold I have been battling since Christmas has finally escalated and has kept me in bed the last two days. So as I am waiting for my next round of Alka Seltzer Cold to knock me out, I have stolen her meme and am even watching When Harry Met Sally. (see her blog for full inspiration and ripping off)

Things you may not have known about me...

Four jobs I have had in my life:
1. Cook in the Mexican Cantina at Great America Theme Park
2. Waitstaff and Bingo caller at a retirement center
3. Scooper and cake decorator at Baskin-Robbins
4. Mailroom Coordinator at Navteq

Four movies I would watch over and over:
1. 9 to 5
2. Clueless
3. Outrageous Fortune
4. Steel Magnolias

Four places I have lived:
1. Campbell, CA
2. West Hollywood, CA
3. Everett, WA
4. Burbank, CA

Four TV shows I love to watch:
1. The Office
2. Grey's Anatomy
3. Ugly Betty
4. One Tree Hill

Four places I have been on vacation:
1. Italy
2. The Bahamas
3. New York
4. Lake Tahoe

Favorite foods:
1. Sushi - can honestly eat it any day of the week
2. Chocolate Cake - just the basic, perfect devils food kind
3. Quite possibly anything with bacon on it. So a BLT... perfect!
4. Italian Food - you'd be hard pressed to find something I wouldn't like

Today's Favorite Word:
Seriously.

I am realizing how much I used to be like Sally. Thank God I have smoothed out around my edges. Trust me, I have. Seriously.

Finn at five months

I know. Cuter and cuter.

Conscious of Self

Cancer Daily Horoscope source

If you find yourself feeling self-conscious today, you are most likely judging yourself too critically. But you can use any feelings of inadequacy to point the way toward improvements you can make to feel better about yourself. For example, if your clothes aren’t fitting the way you’d like, you can make a choice right now to change your habits. Then be conscious of the choice you’ve made for yourself and make that your new definition of self-consciousness. If you don’t think that what’s bothering you can be changed, then accept it as one of the small quirks that give character to each of us. Embrace what makes you feel different from others today and immerse yourself in the splendor of your own uniqueness.

We can turn self-consciousness into self-esteem when we remember not to compare ourselves with others, but instead to appreciate our own wonderful qualities. Write down what it is you admire about others. Then look at the list again and remember that the traits we admire in others are really the recognition of the beauty of our own reflection. Like attracts like; it is universal law. We can always cultivate ourselves, like flowers in a garden, and it is care and nurturing that will make us bloom, not criticism. The most beautiful gardens are those with wondrous variety, so there’s no need to try to be just like anyone else. Be kind to yourself today, and remember the truth of your true magnificence.

What do you think?

Cancer Horoscope for week of December 28, 2006

Verticle Oracle card CANCER (June 21-July 22)
I nominate you to be the zodiac's most successful complainer in 2007. According to my analysis of the omens, you could excel at formulating brisk critiques and constructive dissent. You may even have a genius for bringing the bracing intelligence of the heart to bear on situations that are paralyzed by mind games. If you manage to fulfill the potential I'm prophesying, you'll set in motion far-reaching ripples of benevolent change. More power to you, Cancerian! May your grumbles and squawks and protests be imbued with lyrical persuasiveness.

Auld Lang Syne

Main Entry: auld lang syne
Pronunciation: "Ol(d)-"(l)a[ng]-'zIn, "ol(d)-
Function: noun
Etymology: Scots, literally, old long ago
: the good old times

I will not let this day end without a post. No matter what. No matter how many times I crawl to the couch and close my eyes and quickly dream of another world.

I have had a lot of champagne. A lot. But I have also had a brilliant day.

I had a quiet new years. I was house sitting. I had enough friends with me to count on one hand. Small. Intimate. Perfect.

We played games. We ate cake. I made dinner. We drank champagne. Crystal. My absolute favorite.

I woke up this morning with dogs all around and the sound of stealth bombers flying in the house. They must've passed over the Rose Parade after I freed them out the windows.

Afterwards I delighted myself with a BLT on a croissant. Matt had fetched me some Starbucks. I found a way to plug my ipod into the house sound system. There wasn't a room or inch of the yard my playlist of all Alanis and Dixie Chicks couldn't reach. Including the pool. We nearly went in. The sun was that clear, bright and perfect.

The neighbors came over. Woodie and Mateo. They hopped the fence and brought with them photos, food and champagne.

In said sun, we laughed, told stories, drank champagne, danced and drank more champagne. Dare I say it? I think today might be one of my favorite ever New Year's Days.

I think it is important to be ceremonious about the new year. It may only be a rotation on the calendar, but what other time do we pause and reflect on our place in the world and put forth new and positive energy into our journey? We forget old acquaintances and hopefully make room for new friends.

It is appropriate to say this year has been one of my toughest on record. But with every setback and struggle comes rebirth and strength. 2006 riddled me with betrayal, heartache, health problems, career doubts, self doubts, insecurities and fears. It also brought me love, confidence, a new job career, authentic friendships and inner peace. I am beautiful no matter what they say.

I want to reflect and share more, but I am feeling sleepy. It will be my mission to share more in the next few days. The new man in my life. The year in review. The album that I can't get enough of. Not just my resolutions, but my intentions for 2007. Putting them in writing will make them tangible. Sharing them with you will hold me accountable.

It is with sincerity, honesty and bright hope that I wish anyone and everyone who reads this the most brilliant year ahead. May you each find love, laughter and abundance as you continue upon your journeys and may you find strength in the bad times so that you feel value in the good times. Happy new year my friends.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind?

Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And days of Auld Lang Syne.

For Auld Lang Syne, my dear,
For Auld Lang Syne,
We'll take a cup of kindness yet
For Auld Lang Syne.

And here's the hand, my trusty friend
And gives a hand of thine
We'll take a cup of kindness yet
For Auld Lang Syne.

For Auld Lang Syne, my dear,
For Auld Lang Syne,
We'll take a cup of kindness yet
