Modern Day Marriage

This is me with my wife Ashley. We are part of a three way marriage with Pete. Any day now we are going to choose one state to live in (most likely California since they are more open-minded to such forward thinking, instead of Idaho). In the meantime, I just have these photos to keep them in my heart until we are able to be together again soon...

This is our husband, Pete. Aren't we lucky?

Precious Illusions... more on this later...

You’ll rescue me right? in the exact same way they never did..
I’ll be happy right? when your healing powers kick in

You’ll complete me right? then my life can finally begin
I’ll be worthy right? only when you realize the gem I am?

But this won’t work now the way it once did
And I won’t keep it up even though I would love to
Once I know who I’m not then I’ll know who I am
But I know I won’t keep on playing the victim

These precious illusions in my head did not let me down when I was defenseless
And parting with them is like parting with invisible best friends

This ring will me yet as will you knight in shining armor
This pill will help me yet as will these boys gone through like water

But this won’t work as well as the way it once did
Cuz I want to decide between survival and bliss
And though I know who I’m not I still don’t know who I am
But I know I won’t keep on playing the victim

These precious illusions in my head did not let me down when I was a kid
And parting with them is like parting with a childhood best friend

I’ve spent so long firmly looking outside me
I’ve spent so much time living in survival mode

Being a good sport...

I got tagged with this lifetime meme:

10 years ago: I was 21. It was the year I really came into my skin and began to own who I was. I was surrounded by amazing friends and had my first real job (Navigation Technologies). I was living with Lisa Starkie in San Jose. I miss her. I wish she would find me. 10 years ago was also the year I got Sophie.

5 years ago: The world was a different place. Pre-9/11, pop music made an extraoridnary comeback and I not only got to enjoy it, got to be a part of it. I was off at a No Strings Attached show somewhere around this time. I was working on Movies with Tom Hanks and Jodie Foster. I was living in West Hollywood. I was looking at pursuing a career as a journalist and giving up film production.

1 year ago: I was at the beginning of what became a very destructive slide into depression post 30th birthday. I was emotionally and physically exhausted and completely checked out.

Yesterday: I was tired yesterday as well. But in a completely different space. I got to hang out with my cat in my new home and just do chores and relax. So close to my home being completed, it makes me happy to just sit in it. I also had lunch with my sister and her new boyfriend. All I can say is hot and I will leave it up to you if I am referring to him or my lack of air conditioning in new home.

Today: Still tired. It is a boring theme in my life. At work. Trying to muster the strength to catch up on filing.

Tomorrow: Having dinner with a manager that wants to represent me. Biting nails nervously.

5 snacks I enjoy: Wheat Thins and Cream Cheese; Asiago and Wheat Thins with Red Wine; Fresh Fruit; Anything I can dip in Ranch Dressing; Nachos

5 bands/singers that I know the lyrics of MOST of their songs: Debbie Gibson, Madonna, Belinda Carlisle, Bon Jovi, Chris Isaak

5 things I would do with $100,000,000: Travel, own a a nice home, own a vacation home, pursue my writing career, liposuction

5 locations I’d like to run away to: Tuscany, London, Santa Fe, Santa Barbara, Australia

5 bad habits I have: I get bored easily which kills my motivation and I ultimately end up lazy and wasting time being unproductive; digging at my cuticles; eating poorly; beating myself up; forgetting

5 things I like doing: dancing, laughing with friends, reading a book with my cat in my lap and wine by my side, eating, cooking for friends

5 things I would never wear: a prince albert, I think that everything else is possible knowing my love of a good costume :-)

5 TV shows I like: One Tree Hill, The OC, Reba, Entourage, Six Feet Under

5 movies I like: About a Boy, Grease, Outrageous Fortune, Sordid Lives, Steel Magnolias

5 famous people I’d like to meet: Armistead Maupin, Dolly Parton, Alanis Morissette, Ed Robertson (BNL), Natalie Maines

5 biggest joys at the moment: my new home, my friendships, my music, my shrinking waist line, my column

5 favorite toys: my mp3 player, my cell phone, men, Rubikscube and my etch-a-sketch

5 people to tag: Paula, Erica, Apul, Clara, Adam

Happy Birthday to me!

Deborah Gibson and me on my birthday. I sang the chorus of Electric Youth with her (she was performing an '80s night, hence the red mowhawk). It was one of my greatest birthday moments!

Ciao! Italia!

Ciao!

I just wanted to take a quick moment and say thanks to everyone for all of the birthday wishes yesterday! (no worries if you forgot, you can pretend I was still out of the country)... I had a great day and was in awe, as always, at how lucky I am to have the friends that I do. You guys and gals are the best and I consider it an honor to have y'all along my journey...

I promise to have my Italia stories and photos up on my website by the weekend (I am still jet lagged and over loaded)... but in the meantime, a new Love Handles came out while I was away :-) http://66.161.86.126/detail.asp?id=12227 and no one has left any comments, so either I am getting worse or I have bored everyone to death... but if you feel like leaving one... go here: http://66.161.86.126/comments.asp?id=12227&page=home (no pressure)
:-)

I miss Italy already, but I am thrilled to be home and eager to get
my internal clock back on schedule. Joy, I can not thank you enough for the best birthday present ever (which is really saying something because there have been some great ones in the past!!). You are bellisimo through and through!

The exciting news: I found a new home! I am moving to Glendale/Burbank (I know, I know) the weekend of June 11th... I have to say a very special thank you to my friend Mariko who found the property through her friend... it is exactly what I was looking for, including my very own washer and dryer... Also a great big thank you to all of you who were keeping your eyes out!! Wanna help move? Put June 11th in your calendar... there will be pizza and beer for anyone involved!! I will send out my new address as it gets closer...

Two important plugs:

My friend Christina is in a fantastic new movie called FIGHTING TOMMY RILEY. I was at the premiere on Friday night and I can't promote it enough. The story of it's journey to the screen is as inspiring as the film. It is currently playing at THE REGENT SHOWCASE THEATER at 614 N. La Brea Ave in Los Angeles. Please call the theater at (323) 934-2944, or check LA Weekly or the LA Times for show times. It will also be coming to San Francisco and New York soon, so keep your eyes open for it.

and finally, Katie Thompson is at it again. I just received this email from her this morning...

Thanks to everyone who came to see me at the Key Club...truly. It was so good to see familiar faces right up front -telling everyone to shush....I LOVE IT! Thank you soooooo much! I'm performing at Genghis Cohen a week from Friday, so for those people that weren't able to make it HERE'S YOUR CHANCE. AND---since the last time I debuted new stuff (the Strasburg last month) it was so well received-- I'm thinkin' I'll try that again. SO I HOPE I SEE YOU THERE!

A Sad Day In America

I am seriously in mourning. First was the election results in Novemeber where George was elected a second term. Now comes the second biggest blow, the departure of my Constantine. This makes me scared to live in this country. America, what has happened to you??? Are you afraid Scott will eat you if you don't vote for him? Or worse, beat you like he did his "Baby's Mama"?

Must go sit quietly now...

Feeling Nostalgic...

On the drive in this morning, I heard NSYNC's It's Gonna Be Me and it had me feeling a bit nostaligic. If American Idol can theme the night "The Last Five Years", then I can certainly consider this song and video nostalgic. It has been 5 years this month since my life was changed forever by my six weeks in Memphis. I remember the night I met Lance for the first time, he had just shot this video three days prior. Nsync. Memphis. Ribs. Chris Noth. Wild Bill's Juke Joint. Natalie Cole. Stomp. Wynonna. The mayor. The Rock and Soul Museum opening. Beale Street. Dancing on the street corner for tips. Diver down. Graceland. Amy McKenzie and her mom. Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches. Kristin Day. Mika and Stacy losing their dinner in the parking lot. The drive home from the stranger. Throwing up in the cab. Judy Bouley's maternal love. Easter in Nashville. KFC Chicken and Biscuits with strawberry jam, the hangover cure. An experience like no other. It feels like a lifetime ago.

Happy Birthday Sizzle!

It's hard for me to say the things
I want to say sometimes
There's no one here but you and me
And that broken old street light
Lock the doors
We'll leave the world outside
All I've got to give to you
Are these five words when I
Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn't see
For parting my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me
Thank you for loving me

I never knew I had a dream
Until that dream was you
When I look into your eyes
The sky's a different blue
Cross my heart
I wear no disguise
If I tried, you'd make believe
That you believed my lies

Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn't see
For parting my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me

You pick me up when I fall down
You ring the bell before they count me out
If I was drowning you would part the sea
And risk your own life to rescue me

Lock the doors
We'll leave the world outside
All I've got to give to you
Are these five words when I

Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn't see
You parted my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me

When I couldn't fly
Oh, you gave me wings
You parted my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me

Kathy Griffin is not Nicole Kidman

(c)planetbaub 2005
Here we are the after the taping of Kathy's new special for Bravo, Kathy Griffin is not Nicole Kidman. This is a group of some of my favorite people and was truly one of the most fun nights in recent history. The highlight: dancing to "We Got The Beat" with Jane Wiedlin and her telling me, "you are so Belinda!" Yes kids, dreams do come true. Afterwards, it was up to Kathy and Matt's for champagne and gold lame prom dresses. The only unanswered question of the evening is, what pills was Katie popped during the show? Why is she making those hand gestures in the back row?

A smile to brighten your day...

(c)planetbaub 2005

A few weeks ago, I was scheduled to go to my friend Jen's for dinner. I called to confirm, when her son Will got on the phone. He told me he was drawing on the sidewalk (with his chalk) and that he was going to draw a picture of me. When he was finished, Jen took a picture of my portrait and a picture of him smiling proudly over his work. That would be this photo. How can it not brighten anyone's day????

Hope his smile brightens your day, like it does mine, wherever you are...

When Bad Things Happen To Good People

This is a self portrait I just took moments ago to demonstrate why you should never color your own hair. Think of this as the first ever planetbaub public service announcement. If you notice in the photo below from my Out photo shoot from last Friday, I had blonde hair. I decided it needed to be touched up because the contrast from light to dark was too much. On Saturday night I applied an all-over blonde. I thought it looked nice until I woke up Easter Sunday with brassy gold hair. So I headed back to Rite Aid for some brown to add some lowlights. The brown I chose had "copper" in it. For anyone wondering, copper is short for "Fire Engine Red". At 11:30 last night, I found myself at Rite Aid again purchasing another brown, with no red, no gold- just a darkness that would cover the color before I was carted off to the circus. It is a nightmare and now I have to live with it for the next few weeks. I already miss my luscious blonde trademark locks.

Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measurements

The thing I have found most interesting about the subject of my new column is how out of touch people are with the junk in their trunks. Everyone is intrigued by the results of a colonic, but too completely terrified and grossed out to get one. Here is my experience thus far... and yes, if my insurance pays for it, I've decided to get the other two... http://66.161.86.126/detail.asp?id=10621

Happy New Years! (in March)

I may have shared the majority of my feelings on New Year's Eve in my first installment of Love Handles, but what I didn't mention was Janice Dickinson's friend, an Asian Heiress, who cornered Macaulay and me. Her tyrade was endless and neither of us knew what she was talking about, but she was passionate and we were both wet from her constant spit. We finally got Janice to take her home, but not before she insisted on hopping in this photo with us... good times! (by the way, that is her down there at the bottom)

I'd rather be a desperate housewife than a fat actress...

This is a photo that I just received a couple of weeks ago, but I finally decided to share. It was taken back in December at Kathy Griffin's Toys For Tots party. The significance of this photo (aside from the very hunky James Denton from Desperate Housewives with his not so desperate real life wife), is to note how heavy I look (and remember feeling). This whole weight loss thing is soooooooooo slow and I have been rather frustrated of late. But when I look at this picture, I can finally see some change (not just my hair). Most notably I have lost the fat pockets that seemed to be sagging from under my eyes.

I am also proud to announce that for the first year since I turned 21, I went to the gym last night (St. Patrick's Day) instead of swilling green beer down my gullet. Baby steps.

Just thought I would share...Posted by Hello

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

An Irish man is sittin in a pub one night when 3 Englishmen walked in. The men sit down, and start to talk about how they can anger the Irishman... The first man says, "Watch this..." He gets up, walks over to the Irishman, and says, "Hey man, I hear your St. Patrick was a faggot." The Irishman just replies, "Oh, is that so now?" The Englishman, goes back to his seat perplexed, when his friend jumps up and says, "Here, lemme try that." So he goes over to the Irishman and says, "Hey man, I hear your St. Patrick was a transvestite faggot!" The Irishman only replies, "Oh, is that so now?" So the Englishman, frustrated goes and sits down with his friends. When the 3rd Englishman jumps up and says, "Well, now, I gotta try that!" So he walks over to the Irishman ans says, "Hey, I hear your St. Patrick was an ENGLISHMAN!"

And the Irishman replies, "Aye, that's what your friends were sayin."

Regrets... I have a few...

I really hoped that the first time I was going to write about me having sex for all the world to read, it would be hot and scinitilating. Instead, it just reminds me how pathetic my sex life is as I reread what has turned out to be my own version of a mercy fuck...

At least I like how the photo shoot (above) turned out. It's the same gray T-shirt I am wearing in the very first Love Handles shoot. So although the scales are saying I have stopped losing, at least it appears as though I've lost!

Why Are You HERE?

Earlier this week I went to the One Tree Hill Tour at The Wiltern, where Gavin DeGraw was headling with The Wreckers (w/Michelle Branch) and Tyler Hilton (who by the way is much cuter in person than on the show). It was a fantastic concert, with the exception of this fuckwad that insisted on standing to the left of me talking back to the stage and acting obnoxious for no other reason than to impress the dumb girls he was with. AND THEY WERE JUST AS IDIOTIC!

I don't understand, with ticket prices as inflated as they are, why people have to behave that way at a show. Why be there if you only want to make out with your girlfriend the entire time or talk non-stop about some crisis in your life? This isn't therapy or a bath house! They have easily spent a hundred dollars between the two of them to be there. Their money could be better spent renting a hotel room for the night so that those of us who are fans, and had to really justify the expense, can enjoy the performance. I so badly wanted to scream to the idiot and his dumb broads, "WHY ARE YOU HERE?"

In spite of the idiot talking to my left, Gavin blew the roof off the Wiltern with easily one of his best shows! The crowd lost their minds and I thought I was on an episode of Oprah's Favorite Things when he sang, "I Don't Wanna Be". Such a thrill watching his rocket soar...

Summary of the 2004 Election

The Democrats' mistake was in thinking that a disastrous war, national bankruptcy, erosion of civil liberties, corporate takeover of government, environmental destruction, squandering our economic and moral leadership in the world, and systematic Administration lying would be of concern to the electorate. The Republicans correctly saw that the chief concern of the electorate was to keep gay couples from having an abortion.

Catching Up With Erasure

Chatting on the phone with one of my heroes, Andy Bell from Erasure (right), was a real dream come true... and I am really proud of this interview... He couldn't have been more lovely and I couldn't have kept better cool on the outside considering how crazy my insides felt... my only snafu was saying to him, "A lot of people think your last song was Chain of Fools"... Chain of Fools is of course Aretha Franklin, I meant to say Chains of Love... certainly not the first time I said the wrong thing to someone. Fortunately, he was a complete gentleman and just breezed right over it....

A piece of good news... when I went in for that photo shoot, I grabbed the shirt I am wearing at the last second... a month ago I couldn't get that shirt to button up... so even if it is an ugly picture, there is still some good coming out of it!!!

Love Handles, part 2

The second installment is already up...

http://66.161.86.126/detail.asp?id=9489

This has been such an interesting process and I am only one month into it. I wanted to just say a quick thank you to everyone for being so supportive as I go through this. To say it is a challenge is an understatement, but knowing that I am not going through it alone keeps me from eating all of the crap that I love!!!

My Surreal Life... with Jane Wiedlin

My friend took this picture of Jane and I... and yes, this is just how close up she got us... oh well, sometimes the eyes are the most important part...

It was so much fun to do... we sat at her kitchen table and ate Thai food and talked for over an hour... a lot of it couldn't be repeated, but it was a dream come true for this Go-Go's fan!!

Good ol' Donna Lamar...

I sent out an email yesterday wishing everyone a happy new year and recounting many of the events of the last year... since I rarely experience these events alone, I wanted to remind everyone who shared them with me all of the fun experiences of 2004... well, apparently someone must've forwarded my email on to a Donna Lamar... a woman whom I have never met before and who went to respond to her friend, accidentally replied to me... here is what she wrote and my response to her... feel free to send her a letter if you feel so inclined... what do I care???

I don't know who you are, but I am assuming you meant to reply to whoever sent it to you... it wasn't meant as a forward for people to send, it was a note to my friends about what I have been up to this year since many of my friends experienced many of those events with me... self-obsessed? you have no idea...

Am I only dreaming?

The last 20 minutes of my life have me in such a tail spin that I don't know how to react... you could tell me I am in a dream right now and I would believe you... there is a high probability that I am dreaming and if I am, well then I will wake with crazy memories... but if this is in fact all real... the memories will be that much crazier and the ripple effect will be felt that much stronger... I'm not about to make much sense... perhaps on purpose to retain anonymity for some... perhaps on accident because the wine is making my head swoon and details don't seem as suddenly relevant... Suffice to say, I had a lovely dinner with my friends Shannon and Heather... post dinner, Shannon and I went to a club in Hollywood, Spider... it was nice and because of some relationships, my wine was free... on our way out, we decided to make an appearance at Justin Timberlake's new club... thinking a quick in and out would do us some good... once inside we met up with Lance and friends... on our way to Wilmer without Lindsay's table... we ran into Gabrielle Union... the most fun and beautiful person I have danced with in ages... turns out we both grew up in the bay area and haunted the same haunts... off to Wilmer's table... where he greeted me openly as if we were old friends even though we have only met twice before... Andy Dick was there... acting foolish, yet expectant... Paris Hilton said hi to us in her dark brown wig.... looking through me even though she has met me repeatedly... there were others... mostly annoying... none important to the moments that are affecting me as I grow tired... leaving the club, Shannon and I were chased by several photographers... blinding us with their flashes... were we Cameron and Justin?... will tomorrow's tabloids read: Shannon on the town with new man?... at home, two emails waited from me... why did I leave my sunglasses in my hair?... one from Charlotte from The Go-Gos... inviting me to a special event she was throwing... am I dreaming?... the other... an intimate stranger from my past... Jen Kamerman... the inspiration behind my move to LA... someone who ran away across the country from her demons... only to give birth and start anew in South Carolina... I haven't heard from her in years... why tonight?? am I dreaming? Will I awake and this whole madcap evening have only existed in my mind??? I suppose only time will tell... if these words still remind me tomorrow... then I know it is not made up... unless my entire life exists in my subconscious... but if that were the case... couldn't I dream myself rich???

Happy Thanksgiving!

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite  words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary.

Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer.

For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer.

The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said, "I  believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior." John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude.

As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued, "May I ask what the turkey did?"

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
