More reason to keep your mouth shut and not gossip

If John Paulus, the ex-Marine who claims he hooked up with "American Idol's" Clay Aiken for some wild hotel sex, knew what he was getting himself into when he made his Clay claims, he might have been so hasty in "exposing" Clay.

John Paulus may need to rely on his own muscle to protect himself from crazed Aiken fans: The feds have turned down his appeals for help. Since revealing his sordid hotel-room one-night stand with the pop singer in The National Enquirer, Paulus has been bombarded with death threats from crazed Aiken fans, a loosely organized army of middle-aged women called "The Claymates." Paulus appealed to his local FBI office, but his plea was rejected. "It was turned down by the U.S. attorney, and the FBI determined there are no federal statutes that have been violated," an FBI spokesman tells us. "It is a little strange."

Say Uncle!

It is with pride, beaming rays of light, excitement and glee that I announce the newest member of my family, Griffin Kelley! Even better, his nickname is already Finn, which is the alias I have used for the last couple of years when working on my book. So I will take it as a namesake!

Sending so much love up to Seattle to Robb and Stephanie and my newest newphew!

Willie: Dixie Chicks 'Got a Raw Deal'

Willie Nelson says the Dixie Chicks "got a raw deal" from a disapproving public following their criticism of President Bush.

"I think the fact that they were overseas and onstage had a little bit to do with it because you're speaking to other people about our business," the 73-year-old country crooner said in an interview in this week's Time magazine.

The trio caught harsh criticism after lead singer Natalie Maines told a London audience in 2003 that the group was "ashamed" Bush was from their home state of Texas.

Nelson said he was surprised his remarks about Bush a year earlier during an overseas news conference didn't incite a similar controversy.

"I said 'He's not from Texas and he ain't a cowboy, so let's stop trashin' Texans and cowboys.' It got a little chuckle, but I didn't get run out of the country," Nelson told the magazine.

Nelson recently launched his own XM Radio channel and published "The Tao of Willie," in which he offers his philosophy on subjects ranging from marijuana to war.

I could've been making money this whole time!

I am giving this a try to see how it works, but apparently, my blog will automatically start adding ads relevant to what I post. If you click on it, I will get money! Yep, that little box right at the top of my posts. I don't understand it either, but I am certainly willing to see how it works. I just don't know if it matters if I talk about Lance Bass coming out in People magazine or if I have to write specific things like, "that crunchy Skippy peanut butter is my favorite when I am at home craving a sandwich." I guess time will tell! Either way, click away!

Thank God It's Sunday!

So last week, I posted a pic of Matthew Mc Conaughey for Thank God It's Friday. It was just a little pick me up to celebrate the end of the week. But I have rethought this and decided that Sunday is the day we need the pick me up as we begin our week ahead. In addition, it is also recognized as the day of worship. So from this Sunday on, I will be presenting, Thank God It's Sunday, with a few photos of hotness and pick me ups. I figure since my traffic is up so much right now, I may as well give you a reason to keep coming back!

I have to admit, something about David Beckham is really growing on me (some pun intended). And I couldn't decide on just one, so here are a few. And so I wasn't alienating anyone, I also dug up some female hotness in the form of someone shocking even to myself. I had written her off as the tomboy little sister, but with her new face and hair, Ashlee Simpson has broken out of her shell and emerged quite the swan. Agree or disagree? Who do you think should be next week's Thank God It's Sunday?

Thanks for the laugh Ashley!

You are on a horse, galloping at a constant speed.

On your right side is sharp drop off, and on your left side is an elephant traveling at the same speed as you.

Directly in front of you is a galloping kangaroo and your horse is unable to overtake it.

Behind you is a lion running at the same speed as you and the Kangaroo.

What must you do to safely get out of this highly dangerous situation?

Once the rumor spreads...

Once the rumor spreads,
the truth is just a thing of the past
- Olivia Newton-John

I can not believe how many messgages and emails I am receiving. I am just certain I am going to get in trouble for clogging up a server somewhere. Obviously, I can't respond to all of them, as it is I am doing my best to try and read them as well as do something called "my job". And I swear, I am not turning my website into Planetlancebass, but one of the main questions/comments I keep getting is in regards to how Lance's mom found out.

Typically, it is a topic that should just go to rest because really, does it matter? But because of assumptions that are being made that it was from a certain gossip website that I refuse to give any more attention to, I wanted to clear it up. His mother found out from a small blurb that appeared in Page Six and from there, began doing some research on the internet. It wasn't too hard to put two and two together. But I want it known for the record, that it wasn't the Gamorrean Guard of Gossip who is running around town with pride over the fact that he broke the news even to Lance's family.

Talladega Nights!

Last night was the Talladega Nights premiere at Mann's Chinese Theater. The movie is hilarious and I think will play amazingly in middle America. Will Ferrell is hysterical as usual with stolen scenes by Molly Shannon and Sasha "Ali G" Cohen. I was starving during the movie especially as they indulged constantly in white trash and fast food throughout. You can imagine my happiness when we arrived at the afterparty where banquets of mashed potatoes, Bologna sandwiches, a nacho fountain, hot dogs, tacos, Rally's Burgers, peanut butter and banana sandwiches, homemade Ding Dongs and rice krispy treats were just a small sampling of what was available. The entire back wall was giant video screens playing race track footage while classic rocks blared out of the speakers. It was everything I remembered hanging out in Indianapolis to be! And my friend Steve said he wouldn't have sushi with me until he got a mention on my website... Well here you go Steve... Photos and all!

as always, click to enlarge

So what do you say Steve? Can we go to sushi now?

Yep, he is...

So... yesterday, one of my best friends made an announcement. Splashed across the cover of People Magazine he announced, "I'm Happy." Sure, he may have chosen a different word- his being, "gay", but when is the last time you really looked at the real definition of that word?

Gay
1 a : happily excited : MERRY gay mood> b : keenly alive and exuberant : having or inducing high spirits gay spring song>
2 a :
BRIGHT, LIVELY <gay sunny meadows> b : brilliant in color
3 : given to social pleasures; also : LICENTIOUS

Sure, the fourth one mentions something about homosexuality (members of the same sex engaging in sexual activity- privately and behind closed doors where it is no one else's business what you do (including all of you kinky straight people who don't want to be judged for the sling that may be hanging from your ceiling or the drawer of toys you keep locked from your children)), but let's not focus on what we already know. Instead, let's think about a term society has decided to equate with sin, immoral behavior, and negative connotation, when in actuality, it means happily excited, bright and lively.

For most of us who know gay people, no matter how mean and cruel life has been to them, don't you find they are usually the happiest and liveliest people you know? Is that really such a bad thing? They have spent their childhood hiding and suffering in secrecy until one day they explode and can no longer live in fear of who they are. Spending every waking day of the rest of their lives living each moment in brilliant color. With all of the chaos, pain, anger, violence, war, hatred, intolerance and suffering in the world, who is to say that living a happy and vibrant life is such a bad way to be? Perhaps the people quickest to put down "gay people" are only projecting their own discomfort, jealousy and unhappiness with themselves since we all know misery loves company and would rather have the happy people join their discontent. Imagine if instead, everyone rose above and found their happiness, joy and vitality.

Everyone has been eager for my opinion on Lance's news with questions ranging from benign to outrageous. Did you know? How long have you known? Did you and Lance date? Is he a top or a bottom? Why now and not sooner?

I will go on record and say Lance and I have never dated. He has been and is one of my best friends. I don't often talk about it so vocally and candidly, but I figure right now is as good of a moment as any. What started as nothing more than a fan getting to meet one of his favorite bands du jour has resulted in a six year friendship that has taken me across the country and back and allowed me VIP backstage access to some of life's most colorful and privy experiences that I know most people never get to see.

It has been my privilege to be his friend and a confidante and to be by his side as he has struggled and gone through the process over the last few years about all that this announcement would mean (not just privately as most of us deal with, but also publicly) and figuring himself out as a person. Yes, he really is a human. I have watched his comfort level sway and I have watched him trip and stub his toes. I have also watched him stand back up with poise and I have watched his confidence blossom. While certainly not perfect (he's not the best at committing to events, which also makes it a pleasant surprise when he shows up), he is without question one of the most generous and kind hearted people I have ever known. I could not live the life I do had he not been so generous in his friendship with me.

With that said, I couldn't be more proud to be standing by him at this time and calling him a friend. I tip my hat to him and my smile beams. Everyone's comments on his myspace page and on my website below have been amazing and I am so humbled and thankful by the beautiful responses. It is very much a relief to see how far we have come as a society. Granted, we are still a million miles behind the curve ball, but a long distance from where we were even thirteen years ago when I myself wrestled with the same demons. Yes, it's true, I wasn't always the open gay boy who is now so willing to share every detail of my life. I too once hid in the shadows of my unhappy self.

I know there are detractors and haters who will be against all of this and to them I do not feel anger, I feel sadness. I ask that when you encounter them, you treat them the same. My sympathy goes out to anyone living a sad and bitter life who want nothing more than company. And to them I want to ask, why don't you step outside of your comfort zone and be happy? Rise above and join us in our level of comfort and live your life with the same brilliant color. We can promise we won't make you practice same-sex, but we may make you dance with us!

Something to Ponder

"I would rather be ashes than dust!
I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze
than it should be stifled by dry rot.

I would rather be a superb meteor,

every atom of me in magnificent glow,

than a sleepy and permanent planet.

The proper function of man is to live,
not to exist.

I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them.
I shall use my time"

-Jack London (1876 - 1916)

How was your weekend?

It was a roller coaster weekend, but a good one none the less. Any time you wake up with a man in your bed (and one that you liked well enough to let spend the night), you are off to a good start. Carrie and I had brunch at one of my favorite outdoor eateries, the Riverside Cafe. I love their food and I love the outdoor patio. What I didn't love was the heat. With the sweltering temperatures already over a hundred by noon, it was easy for Carrie to talk me into seeing a movie with her.

We saw My Super Ex-Girlfriend. Sadly, the best part of the movie was the air conditioning. I really wanted to like it, but it just didn't have any substance. And I don't want to be mean, especially when it comes to personal appearance... but is it just me or did Luke Wilson look a little puffy in the movie?
Like maybe he is drinking a little too much? I recognized those cheeks on Tara Reid. Fortunately his one ass shot made up for a lot and definitely looked fantastic!

After the movie, I headed off to the gym. Must get in shape. Must feel better. Mustn't die old spinster. After a good sweat, I headed off for a Thai Massage to get rid of this kink in my neck that won't go away.
Speaking of kink, some of those positions they put you in... well... let's just say, I wish I had had the massage before Friday night!

After my massage, I raced home and dressed for
APLA's big charity event where my friend Deborah Gibson was performing. She looked and sounded great. I've even gotten used to the idea that I know her and that she is just Deb. But halfway through her performance, she brought out a friend to sing their new duet together. It was Jordan Knight from New Kids on the Block. Now, I have met Jordan a few times over the years as well and it has always just been nothing special (his brother Jon was always my favorite- who was there by the way, but I never saw him!). But having both he and Deb on stage together, my head was dizzy and I swear I had a Peggy Sue Got Married moment making me think I was back in 1989. Neither of them have aged a day and they both sounded fantastic. I didn't get any good pics, but I did manage to capture a little video...

To hear the entire duet, visit Jordan Knight's myspace page. It's nice, I like it. I don't know that I would ever want to duet with her, even if I could sing, because I think she just sings circles around everyone!

Also on hand, my friend Lisa was presenting the top ten bartenders from the various West Hollywood bars that had been auctioned off for charity (they raised an impressive $27,000). There was one in particular that was so hot and I couldn't stop trying to figure out his familiarity. Then I realized it was the bartender from my birthday that I apparently licked. And by apparently, I mean the photo says I did and I am pissed that my brain forgot! So of course I made him pose with me (and I managed to keep my tongue inside this time which wasn't easy between the panting from the heat and the insanely hot men). This heat must be doing something to my libido. I never talk about men this much, do I?

Sunday still had no rest for me. I woke up at nine and headed to
breakfast with my friend Abby and her children. She and I realized we have known each other eleven years from our time working together at Navigation Technologies. How is that possible? I was so young and eager back then!
After breakfast, I once again made it to the gym (I know, believe me, I am only mentioning it so much because I am just as shocked!) and then it was off to Revolution's company party at the Lucky Strike Bowling Lanes. It was so hot in there. They had the airconditioning set to 65 degrees and it was still 84 in there. The buildings can't even fend off the heat! I bowled an unimpressive 62 during the tournament and somehow pulled out a 122 when we were "bowling just for fun". Typical.

Then I barely had time to shower and change and head back to Hollywood to see my friend Nick perform his routine at the Comedy Store on Sunset. There were about 20 comics each with a seven minute set and for whatever reason, during Nick's (and only Nick's) set, the lights went out! As if he wasn't nervous enough! I felt awful! Although, I do think it helped him, because he became most natural when he joked, "am I really that bad?" and found his vibe with the audience. But I have to admit, I still am having unpleasant thoughts about him humping that stool.

And don't think I didn't stay up and watch Big Brother, Entourage and The Simple Life until two in the morning. It's no wonder I am always so exhausted and it answers the tired old question, "Bob, what is it you are always so busy doing that you can never return my calls or emails?"

It's late

It's already one am. Can anyone tell me where my day has gone?

I am up forcing myself to write more thank you cards.

It's a lot of work being thankful for other's generosity.

But worth every pen stroke.

I still have a post in progress from Saturday night including video of Jordan Knight and Deborah Gibson singing. It was a good night. Hopefully I can share it tomorrow.

Had final chiropractor appointment this afternoon, my neck is finally better.

Got results back from cardiologist this morning. Turns out if I exercise and eat right, I am going to live a long and happy life.

Had a nice dinner with my friend Shane. He wouldn't let me take his photo for my dinner cam. He had just come from the gym.

I went to the gym after dinner. 10pm I was on the treadmill making mental lists.

  • Keep working out and you will live a long and healthy life.
  • Write those thank you cards for the birthday gifts that one month later are still trickling in.
  • Find a new job.
  • Start up Love Handles again.
  • Remember to love yourself or no one else can or will.
  • Get more hair wax.
  • Check in with the BB7 Live Feed.
  • Blog. You have a lot to say. Start saying it.

I wrote some poetry.

I'll be sharing it soon.

I'm watching Tracey Ullman on TV right now.

What I wouldn't give for an ounce of her brilliance and endless energy.

I know it's redundant.

But it is hot here.

It is hot everywhere.

I know, Global Warming was made up by Al Gore to distract people from the topic of Gay Marriage. I am sure that it is normal for me to be frying eggs on my coffee table.

My house is like a convection oven. I have fans that just swirl the hot air from one room to the next.

I live in the valley and I have no AC.

I am convinced people in Hell are looking up at us with sympathy and sudden appreciation for their cool climate.

Yes, it is that hot. And isn't September our hot season? Once those Santa Anas kick in, the whole state can know what it is like for me typing this right now in my convection oven living room.

I have to go.

I want to write at least two more cards before I go to bed.

I want them all out by week's end.

I will have then been 32 for a whole month.

Stay cool, wherever you are.

xoxo

Dinner Cam

People are constantly asking me what I have been up to and my stock response is usually, "nothing". And it isn't that I am copping out, it is that I really feel like I haven't been doing much. But that got me to thinking... I am rarely home before 11:30pm and I am constantly on the go. So how is it possible that I am up to nothing? My answer... I am always out eating!

We have been taught since kindergarten that we need to eat three meals a day. The sexiest of them being dinner. I think I consider it nothing because it is something we have to do, but it doesn't mean it is boring and it certainly isn't nothing! That's why I've decided to start bringing along my camera from now on. So if you know you are having dinner with me, do make sure your hair and make up are just how you like it, cause you aren't getting away without a snapshot!

Oh and Paddy, Joan and Brittan, I have no idea what happened. I know I had my camera with me, but for some reason I forgot to snap our pics! I guess this new project of mine will take some practice to become habit!

MONDAY was dinner with Paddy and Joan. I still can't believe I forgot to grab our photo. I guess it will make for a good excuse to have dinner with them again soon. TUESDAY however was really a treat. Erin and the kids were in town for a visit and we sat by Mary's pool eating "The Sauce" and drinking wine (sadly Craig had flown home over the weekend). I can't believe two years have passed since our last visit together. How is that possible? All I can say is I hate it!

WEDNESDAY
night was a nice chat (unfortunately not a great dinner) with my friend Brittan. It was good to hash through various aspects of personalities, dreams and goals in Hollywood. I'm really sad I don't have a pic of him to share. He is very easy on the eyes!

And THURSDAY, the clouds parted and light shone down upon my 9:30 meal (they think they still live in New York) when I discovered the best macaroni and cheese in Los Angeles. If you ever make it over to Luna Park on La Brea, you have to sample it! If that wasn't great enough, I was also introduced to the most incredible new invention, the
Tide Pen. It is a felt pen, but it removes stains!!! And anyone who has eaten with me knows I ALWAYS wear my food!

Both of these divine introductions were presented to me by my new friends Chip and Willa. Thanks to them opening my eyes, I will never be the same (well, I might be, but at least I will be stainless!). While driving directly to Rite Aid to purchase said pen, my friend Carrie pulled up behind me. Fortunately I made her go with me and she was able to console me when I discovered they were sold out! I will not sleep tonight until I own one!

And tonight, was sushi and sake with Gabe, Missy and Kelly. Steve... you were sadly missed!!

It's time to confess...

NBC brings in Madonna to put sizzle in new season

Fri Jul 21, 2:54 PM ET

NBC on Friday said it plans to air a two-hour concert by global pop star Madonna this November as it struggles to climb from the basement of U.S. television ratings.

"Madonna: The Confessions Tour Live," is being taped this summer in London's Wembley Stadium, and will feature songs from the Material Girl's CD, "Confessions On a Dance Floor."

The pop singer's shows are notorious for their sexual content, and NBC said it will tape the concert and pick which songs and dances to edit from the network's broadcast.

"She is going to do her show, and we will decide which numbers are in the (TV special) and which are not, and that is whole numbers. We are not going to make piecemeal edits," Kevin Reilly, president of NBC Entertainment, told a gathering of TV critics.

NBC is mired in fourth place in viewership ratings among the four major U.S. broadcast networks, including ABC, CBS and Fox, and ratings success is critical for boosting advertising revenue. The Madonna special is expected to lure audiences who then may return to NBC to watch new shows.

Thank God It's Friday!

This just brought me so much happiness, I had to share. Is it just me or does this man seem to be getting hotter and hotter with age?

Taking off my pants

This morning while I was at the doctor, I was asked to disrobe and put on a white cotton hospital gown. It was thick and heavy and somehow light and breezy. I was so comfortable in it (in spite of the fact that one wrong twist and my back-end business would be in full view) that it got me to thinking about how nice it would be if we could wear said gowns in our daily lives. Whoever decided that it would be women who wore dresses and men who wore pants?

Wearing it, I realized you couldn't tell if I was fat or thin. I was just me. And with all of this global warming, it was nicely air conditioned. It was multi-purpose AND comfortable.

Now granted, there are some bodies which should be in tight form fitted clothes. But what if we lived in a world where they were "the radical" and "different" ones while leaving the rest of us in mumus? It was just my thought I had today while I was waiting...

Oh! And my friend Nick is performing some standup this Sunday at 8pm at the Comedy Store on Sunset. Come check him out, won't you? (in case you were wondering, he is the one on the right)
